Close-up: El Pampero Cine

El Pampero Cine was founded in 2002 as a collective of individuals keen to experiment with and revitalise the methods and practices of Argentine cinema. Presently they are among the most original and acclaimed production companies of the last decade. Their works have broken new ground in virtually every aspect of filmmaking.

Initially, it was a deep love of cinema that defined El Pampero Cine, bringing together four filmmakers: Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky, Laura Citarella and Agustín Mendilaharzu.

But it is also friendship, mutual support and working ‘together’ that run through all their films.

With such powerful films as La Flor (2018), Trenque Lauquen (2022), La Vendedora de Fósforos (2017), Clementina (2022), and Historias Extraordinarias (2008), their films are free, unique, sometimes lengthy, and often produced without any public funding. Always there's a close and strong connection to the arts, such as music, theatre, and literature.

The influence of El Pampero Cine is not limited to the aesthetic sphere: its revolution also extends to modes of production and distribution, and in this sense constitutes a fine example and a new way of making films.

As part of a collaboration with the Film Fest Gent, two members of the collective, Mariano Llinás and Agustín Mendilaharzu, will be delighted to join us in Bozar for three evenings showcasing their latest works as well as some of their classics. These three evenings promise to be engaging and a real treat for film lovers.
