Le Chat dans le Sac - Gilles Groulx

The film and the concert will be introduced in detail by Guy Peters. 
Gilles Groulx’s first feature-length fiction film, which incorporates documentary techniques and a soundtrack featuring music by John Coltrane. The cast consists of non-professional actors, the dialogue is improvised, and continuous filming in natural settings ensures the spontaneity and authenticity characteristic of documentary productions. Through the story of a couple in their twenties, the film raises the fundamental question of the Quebec people’s political coming of age, as perceived by a filmmaker driven by ideals and the pursuit of the absolute. 
For the soundtrack, Gilles Groulx, a great admirer of Coltrane, travelled to New Jersey himself to record John Coltrane and his band in his studio. These recordings appear on the posthumous album Blue World, released in 2019. Coltrane did not record new material for the soundtrack; instead, he drew on his existing discography.
