Library of Materials

Studiotopia 2.0

As part of the European Studiotopia project, Bozar, BC Materials, RWTH Aachen University and UCLouvain–LOCI organised a series of Pop-up Labs exploring contemporary architecture with international students. Between 2025 and 2026, the different groups researched the possibilities of building with soil, and using sustainable materials in their architecture practice. Inspired by the work of Colombian artist Delcy Morelos, more than 50 students investigated the relationship between architecture, soil and ecosystems through lectures, workshops and hands-on experiments.

The students from RWTH Aachen University experimented with local materials such as clay, earth and natural fibers, and together developed a “Library of Materials”, which serves as a source of inspiration for the monumental installation that Delcy Morelos presents at Bozar in the summer of 2026. The students from UCLouvain–LOCI focused on de-paving their courtyard and exploring how to reconnect with earth in our concrete built environment. They will also take part in the installation process of Bozar Monumental at the Centre for Fine Arts.

The project brings together art, science and architecture, inviting students to rethink our relationship with the earth through collaborative and experimental practices.
